“Lovat’s Scouts” ~ another J. Scott Skinner tune ~ a quickstep march

http://www.abdn.ac.uk/scottskinner/display.php?ID=JSS0705

1.) A Major ~ is taken from the Skinner transcription, changed from 4/4 there to 2/4 here.

2.) D Major ~ also changed to 2/4 from a 4/4 transcription given in ‘Discussions’:
“Can anybody name this tune?”

3.) G Major & 4.) D Major ~ my turn, returning in the end to a reflection of the Skinner transcription we started with…

“The Lovat Scouts’ Quickstep March” ~ the review of mistakes

K: A Major ~ the first take, the B-part, the 13th & 14th measures aren’t supposed to be 5/8 ~ corrections have been made in the ABCs for the first take, Skinner’s… I missed some bits when changing it from 4/4 to 2/4 something got past that shouldn’t have, so here are some other possibilities, minus that glaringly wrong e2 & a2 that made for 5/8 measures, something Skinner never intended… B-part, measure 13 possibilities:

~ | A/B/c/d/ e c/A/ | ~
~ | a/A/c/d/ e/A/c/e/ | ~
~ | a (3B/c/d/ e (3c/B/A/ | ~
~ | ac ed/c/ | ~

Mea culpa! ~ we were on our way out for a walk in the stormy weather at the time, on my wife’s insistance, and I should have waited as planned for later this evening… The wind is still fierce and whistling away outside…

I quite like the tease in the pauses of those wrongly notated 5/8 measures… 😛
