“The Shamrock” ~ two more sprigs, as promised: highland fling & single reel
This is very familiar, with at least one or two other melodies that I suspect are already on site, but I haven’t yet found them ~ too many chores to do today. I suspect that slainte, Dow or one or two others on site will know them, will have a better working memory than I do, and can add the links here. The other things that come to mind are coming out of the shadows in different keys and modes. There are a few coming to the fingers that are damned close to this.
A version of this, also D Dorian, is to be found in the Joyce collection, "Old Irish Folk Music and Songs", 1909, but with only a few differences from the second take, the single reel. It is also a single reel:
