“La Complainte Du Folkloriste” ~ compositeur: Philippe Bruneau

One l in Philippe… I’ve never heard the tale behind the name, so if anyone out there knows it, please help clear the fog and weave some semblance of the tale here. Here is a rough transcription of the playing of the man himself, not far from the previous transcription:

K: E Dorian
|: B2 |
e3 f g2 | f3 g a2 | g3 d BA | G4 F2 | E3 F G2 | A3 G A2 | B6- |1 B4 B2 :|2 B6 ||
|: g6 | e4 g2 | f6 | d4 f2 | e3 f g2 | f2 e2 d2 | e6 | B4 c2 |
d6 | A4 d2 | e3 f g2 | f3 g a2 | g3 f e2 | f3 e d2 | e6- |1 e4 e2 :|2 e4 ||

Oops, the ending for the A-part above is at fault, the last measures, the B2 lead in shouldn’t have been there:

B6- |1 B4 :|2 B6 ||

La Complainte

This tune can be found on the Album ‘La Mistrine’ by La bottine Souriante, if you do not own it - why not?

I do, thank you et merci… 8-)

Story of the name

There’s an alaskan song in French called ‘La complainte du phoque’ - the sadness of the seal. I suspect this is a joke by Philippe Bruneau turning phoque into folkloriste.

Story of the name

Correction - that should have been ‘the lament of the seal’ of course.
