This is another great reel from the Upside Down album which was released by Sharon Shannon, Mike McGoldrick, Jim Murray, and Dezi Donnelly in Australia 2006. I think this is a Liz Carrol tune, but not one hundred percent sure of that. Again it has a fantastic drive to it. I think on the album it is followed by The Malbay Shuffle.
Yep, it’s a Liz Carroll tune, on her album with John Doyle, “In Play”, track 5. I added the alternate title so the tune is linked to that album, too. Very nice!
Key is D, not Bm.
Variation
A variation to the first couple of bars here from the Upside Down recording of this tune:
dB|A2Bd AFdc|B2BA B2de|…
I couldn’t find the sheet music of this specific arrangement anywhere on the internet.
Re: Blessings Of Gold
The original poster of the tune above says he took it from that very album. Do you not think it is accurate ?
Re: Blessings Of Gold
NM, sounds likethey’re playing on instruments tuned a half step sharp, i.e. an Eb flute, a D/D# button box, etc, with D fingerings. Unless you have an Eb flute or whistle, you’ll probably want to use an audio transposing tool if you want to play along.
Re: Blessings Of Gold
I don’t believe a simple transposition would suffice since the first 3-4 bars are different between the two. The variation that Alex Davidson posted is very close to the upside version I linked. I’d be grateful if someone can share the sheet music.
The tin whistlers use the same arrangement as the Upside Down version which ironically links back to here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TLMz6O4K-Q
Here’s an attempt at the Upside Down variation Alex mentioned, plus a 5th-bar AdBd variation that they play fairly often and some of the ornamentation (which differs depending on whether I’m listening to fiddle, flute, or box). Does this work, NM?
