Gravel Walks Jig

Cathal McConnell transformed the reel “The Gravel Walks” into a jig, which originally had 4 parts. Only two of them here.

Completed score

Here is what I believe to be closer to McConnell’s playing of the tune. I’m not sure I’m right about the keys I propose… Feel free to comment and enlighten me.

tunes to group with The Gravel Walk?

I’m learning a new tune, Gravel Walk (on mandolin) and I really would just like to get a bunch of input as to what you others might play with it. I don’t play in sessions, just sit in with my friends’ Irish band on occasion, at a local eatery. Thanks in advance

Its common in Donegal to go from Old Cuffe St.

Re: tunes to group with The Gravel Walk?

We play Miss McLeod’s Reel before Gravel Walk. The contrast betweent he two tunes is striking.

Boys of Malin

Re: tunes to group with The Gravel Walk?

I play The Mountain Top/Gravel Walk/The Longford Tinker in that order. Works for me.

Re: tunes to group with The Gravel Walk?

Boys of Malin would be my preference played before the Gravel Walks. Don’t forget to repeat the fourth part of Gravel Walks - I think most sessions do this and it’s a great part of the tune being in the key of “C”.

Flute players

I don’t get how this tune is scary for flautists, it’s hard certainly but i managed it with a bit of practice and a lot of perseverance, and i’m a barely above average flautist
