Follow Me Down to Carlow
I learned this reel from the playing of flutist Mike Rafferty, and it’s a far different setting from what I’ve heard Kevin Burke do on fiddle. If you were to take a trip from Sligo or Galway to Carlow, Burke would get you there faster, but Rafferty would show you more of the countryside along the way.
Rafferty plays this lyrically and not too fast, savoring those long c notes at the turns, waiting to resolve back to G major.
This goes well into Kerryman’s Daughter (in C major), and I often follow Kerryman’s D with Maid(s) of Feakle, back in G.
