Background on Bridget Cruise

I learned that song today, and the teacher told this story:

Bridget Cruise met Carolan when he was still a boy (before his blindness which came at age 18). He fell in love with her, but as she came from a noble family they would never be allowed to get together. Anyway he could not forget Bridget and wrote 3 planxties for her.
