Sir Torquil Monroe

I believe this is an Adam Rennie composition. I had it on a 78rpm disc in a set of four jigs:
"The Golden Pheasant" (not by Rennie)
"Sir Torquil Monroe"
"Elizabeth Donald" https://thesession.org/tunes/7146 and
"Mrs Grace Bowie" https://thesession.org/tunes/7147

I transposed them from Bflat to A - of all of them, Sir Torquil least suits that transposition.

Adam Rennie Appreciation Week ~ “Sir Torquil Monroe”

Thanks for the contributions Nigel. I was half hoping that Kenny might also know some of his tunes… I had come across your ABCs for this one on the Internet and have been playing around with it in G… It was fun, a kick, but I hope I haven’t taken too many liberties. It has ended up somewhere along the following lines ~

X: 1
T: Sir Torquil Monroe
M: 6/8
L: 1/8

“Sir Torquil Monroe” ~ a relatively direct transposition to G

Here it is from your notes and taken to G without my distractions:

Re: Sir Torquil Monroe

I heard this jig was named for Hugh Munro’s father. Hugh was the first guy to almost complete all the Scottish mountains over 3000ft (missed out on the Innaccessible Pinnacle of Sgurr Dearg on Skye, as he thought it was too much like a rock climb) and for whom they are named.

Useless trivia of the day. But makes it worth my time to learn an obscure jig.
