Dervish does in in F# and Lunasa does it in A.
So, give it to us in A already… ;-)
The Ashplant
I’m a beginner with the uilleann pipes and i’ve been trying to find sheet music for the ash plant…its a reel, i dont know what other names it has though. Does anybody know where I can find it?
I’m also looking for pipers in the cleveland area to try to take up lessons.
Thanks in advance!
Re: The Ashplant
Here is the tune with notation.

Good luck.
Re: The Ashplant
To begin with, it’s a name commonly given to at least two quite different reels, very good tunes both of them.
Look up The Ashplant in the Tunes database. By that name, on its own, you’ll find the minor / modal reel which I assume has the best claim to the name. Further down the list you’ll find a tune that’s also known as Jim (?) Kelly’s - click on that one, and you’ll get a reel in D major which has acquired a bewildering number of names, The Ashplant being one of them.
Re: The Ashplant
You can also listen to it played on piano accordion at http://comhaltas.ie/music/detail/comhaltaslive_199_3_echoes_of_erin_dean_warner/
Re: The Ashplant
It’s a well known tune - I’m sure someone in your area knows it and would be willing to teach it to you phrase by phrase. It’s also on the NPU instructional DVD #1. If you learn it this way you’re more likely to remember it in pressure situations. I tend to forget tunes learned from dots unless I play them all the time, but the ones I learned by ear tend to stick in my memory a lot longer.
You may be surprised by how your playing takes off after you force yourself to learn tunes by ear. It will be difficult at first but just keep at it, it gets easier in the end. With pipes, it’s worth the effort to do things right.

Tony McMahon’s Ashplant set
I have a recording of Tony McMahon playing this tune and another one after, does anyone know what that next tune is??
Track 2 ?
The Ashplant

Npu Dvd 2
It’s actually on DVD Volume 2, not Volume 1.
How to end the Ashplant?
Anybody have a good way to end this tune? None of my recordings have it at the end of a set, and it doesn’t have an obvious way of resolving.
Ash Plant
f gedB A3 seems a pretty obvious ending Gary, if you don’t mind me saying.
Seems a bit unresolved to end an Edor tune on an A. Someone suggested via e-mail this morning f gedB AGFD E4.

does anybody know the guitar chords to this tune?
The Ashplant
This tune was in the UK hit parade many years ago, under the title ’ Jig a Jig ’ by the band East Of Eden.

Ashplant - meaning
Being of non-Irish descent, I found it interesting to learn that the "ash plant" (or "ashplant") was a cane, commonly used in Ireland (in the past) either for leaning on or for beating school-children (I have heard the expression "this will be the ashplant for you!", i.e., you will be punished for this).
