and which of the 32 counties does this "barndance" come from, please ?

It’s one of those ‘lost tribe’ numbers… 😎

This tune is a favorite at our weekly session at the neighborhood Bagel shop

Fiel, where are you?

Fiel, where are you? Did you see where I last left my cimbalom and kavals? Damn, I have a shplittin’ headache. What was that slivovic we were downing last night? Those belly dancesr were enchanting. Who was that one with the ruby in the navel and the pert ~ uhums ~ ?

Ah, MacMandolin, blessed amongst the Ottawa tribe, one of the saner amongst us, can you spare an aspirin? ~ please? 😏

Lovely. Do you play any Irish music?

Nah, I can’t be bothered with all that diddly-I-am… πŸ˜‰

What is wrong with it? You could play it on a D whistle so that makes it Irish enough for me πŸ™‚

One or two frequenters of this site might know that, in the past 6 months, I’ve become involved with a Klezmer band, so I’m always on the look out for tunes to add to my repertoire. I didn’t imagine this would be the place to find Jewish tunes - it’s not really the place to post them. But I’m an out-and-out opportunist. If someone chopped down a 300-year-old walnut tree, I’d say what a shame it was, then see if I could cadge any timber.

I’d get there before you spoon, as far as the walnut is concerned, and if it were well figured, I’d sell my ma into slavery… I still say the best bagels I’ve ever had were from a shop in Dublin… And I attended synogogue there a couple of times at least. 😎

Spoon, you are going over to the knife side? ~ Oy vai iz mir… 😏

Ceolachan!;

ceolachan! She’s right beside me here in bed! She doesn,t recall anyone with lost cimbalom and kavals. Wait!! She asks if you were the one trying to swallow a duduk while playing the "Chicken sh*t Reel" and later got tagled up in what you apparently thought was a kind of cheese slicer, but was the before mentioned cimbalom? What a cosy evening!

Fiel - that YouTube link is class! I’m giving up Irish music - I wanna play like them!

"Would it btw sound awesome on pipes?"

I don’t know what all those flats are like to play on Uillean pipes. No doubt the Bulgarian gayda could handle it. Although I’ve never heard those pipes played in 4/4 - Bulgarians don’t seem to do symmetry. Perhaps it’s because they always play standing on a slope.

Pipes and a cheese slicer eh spoon? I wonder if one of those cigar slicer would do a neat job of it for skin removal with minimal blood loss? πŸ˜‰

fiel, I took the sisters home with me, Emerald and Opal… Ruby, that wasn’t a dudulk, I was just excited to see you… 😎

Sadeger, now Sadgora, the Ukraine

Sadeger is in the Ukraine, a town now called Sadgora. The following version, in print and as a midi, is based on the cymbalom playing of Joseph Moskowitz, who was recorded in 1916, "Klezmer Music" Folklyric 9034. A transcript of this version can be found here:

"Mel Bay’s Klezmer Collection" (Bb & C editions available)
Compiled and edited by Stacy Phillips
Mel Bay Publications, Inc., 1996
ISBN: 0-7866-0841-2

& the midi here, the homepage given first:

As Phillips says of this version, it "represents the un-Americanized sound of klezmer…

While familiar, neither of these two versions are as I’ve known it, but it has been awhile… Sholom aleichem…

“Shalom Ireland” ~ a documentary film & “Ceilizemer”

http://www.shalomireland.com/

"Shalom Ireland is a one hour documentary about Ireland’s remarkable, yet little known Jewish community. Shalom Ireland chronicles the history of Irish Jewry while celebrating the unique culture created by blending Irish and Jewish traditions. From gun running for the Irish Republican Army during Ireland’s War of Independence to smuggling fellow Jews escaping from the Holocaust into Palestine, Shalom Ireland tells the untold story of how Irish Jews participated in the creation and development of both Ireland and Israel. ~"

Music from the film & CD "Shalom Ireland"
including "Sadegurer Khosid"
http://www.drivingwithfergus.com/shalomireland.html

The Rabbi of my local Lubavitch synagogue is from Belfast. He has a party trick that he does once a year where he says Kiddush (a prayer usually said over a cup of wine) over a CUP of whiskey. Which he then downs.
It’s really funny to hear Hebrew and Yiddish expressions in a northern Irish accent…

Good one Joe, that’s one that could convert me from my wayward ways. I’d love to hear it… πŸ˜‰

Uilleann pipes Version

Pretty easy to play on the UP amd might sound as good as all the other Klezmer played in "Irtrad" nowadays. Switch off the dones, please.
