This tune started falling out of my whistle in early May 2007, and finished itself in just a couple of days.
It is a nice tune.
It doesn’t sound Irish (at all) and, strange as it might sound, I feel that ‘reel’ doesn’t describe it well either; it feels more like a…waltz!

It’s the third tune in the reel set.
First Steps was released this month by The Jig Is Up!
Available on CDBaby and iTunes.
According to Matt Cranitch, Dennis Murphy’s fiddle had a gargoyle carved on the end in place of the usual scroll.
I don’t think it was a gargoyle, he played one of those Mittenwalder Steiner copies that were popular in Ireland because they were thought to be louder than your average fiddle. They had lion heads instead of a scroll.
Actually have one in the house myself, although I am not completely sure where it is.
