“Jerry Holland’s Strathspey” ~ by Dan R. MacDonald

What better way to generate good thoughts than through music, a tune created with respect for Jerry Holland. This is partly spurred on from recent news and discussions. I hope I’ve done a reasonable job at transcribing this from Jerry’s own playing of this tune dedicated to him by another well known fiddler and composer, Dan R. MacDonald.

Here are the links to those discussions:

Bb Major

That isn’t an option and so I had to choose the relative minor, g minor, two flats…

Dan R. MacDonald, 1911-1976

Other transcriptions for this tune can be found in the following Cranford Publications:

“The Heather Hill Collection: Fiddle Music of Dan R. MacDonald” (Volume 1 of 2)
compiled by John Donald Cameron

“Jerry Holland’s (first) Collection of Fiddle Tunes”
edited by Paul Stewart Cranford
Cranford Publications, 1988, expanded & revised 1992

“Jerry Holland’s Strathspey” / “Jerry Holland’s Reel”

Not the same tunes ~ for the first obvious difference, your transcription is for a ‘reel’, and this is for a ‘strathspey’… 😏
