Austens,,

This is a wee tune I composed myself for my second son, Austen.
If the abc is not quite up to scatch you can always go to=
http://www.myspace.com/learntunes and here me playing it,,
go to videos,,second reel after Lambeg tune in bluegrass styleish,
Thanks - jim.

Nice tune. Unfortunately the abc’s don’t bear much resemlance to what you’re playing on the audio. Your bars don’t add up, and the note groupings are very hard to read.

I just did a transcription of what I hear you playing. I wouldn’t know, it’s not my tune, but it seems like your transcription misses a lot of the really nice stuff you’re doing with it. I really enjoyed your playing of this tune, Jim. I kind of hope you do something with the note groupings in your abc at least, before it gets converted to sheetmusic, just so the transcription does justice to this damn fine tune you’ve written.

Nicely played FIDDLE4 ;-)

DAD! ~ But my name ain’t Austen…

I’m with Dow, a lovely tune, but cack ABCs…

Ask and ye shall recieve ~

I keep telling you, ask before you leap, at least for awhile. Either of us and just about anyone else on site is willing to give a hand. We’d rather your contributions were well represented than a mess…

I’m glad you left out the ‘h’… 8-)

Just in case you manage to catch this before it gets converted to sheetmusic, Jim, if you go to "edit abc" you can change it and clean it up. The quickest way would be to cut & paste mine and then change any notes you’re not happy with, maybe ones that were unintended or ones I’ve misheard or misinterpreted. Otherwise your sheetmusic will be set in stone forever, and quite frankly it’s unreadable.

At least you’ve provided us with the audio file so it’s not the end of the world. Usually with bad abc submissions like this, there’s nothing to go on at all to get the tune.

And a lot of the time the tune’s crap as well. But this one’s not. This one’s a goodie.

Yeah ‘c’, "h" for "honest" :-)

I told you I was gonna say what I think about tunes from now on, and I meant it. That goes for good tunes as well. If I like a tune I’ll say so. I’m not all bad…

Comhaltas will have your hide Jim ~

Screwing around with that bluegrassy oldtimey stuff will get you in a heap of trouble Jim… Jim? Jim?? JIM!!!

I wish he’d wake up and do the corrections. I’ve emailed him, have you? Nurse, poke Jim and tell him to get his butt in gear…

8-)

Forget Dow’s transcription, which is a bit dodgy at best. Besides, it’s already here in the comments, why repeat his mistakes. Use the one I emailed you and p*ss him off!

Thanks all…..

Thanks all For your intrest in my tune, theres more where that came from - Abc corrected by.. Dow.
His corrections are much better than my mistakes- I think I’ll need a lot of help with ABC
from now on Point Taken..
You’ve all ben a great help - REALLY,,,
JIM.

Damn, Dow’s ABCs… :-(

Thankyou ..

ceolachan
Thankyou for all this heip,,jim

Complete tune..

I now after hearing both the samples of my tune
ive decided to use dow’s first part and ceolachan second part- if you go back to myspace.. http://www.myspace.com/learntunes
You find this complete tune is -closest
to what i am playing .thank you both-
Jim Mcauley

Yes, ‘c’s B-part is more like how you play it - but at least the notes are the same - it’s just a question of rhythmic style. And ‘c’s A-part is just another version of what I hear you playing too. The 1st time through the tune I’d transcribe it more like the way ‘c’ has done it, and then 2nd time through it’s more long notes and rolls. At least the abc now conveys the essence of the tune - which is all abc ever does…

Essences ~ this was fun…like trying to catch a greased pig in a large pin full of muck… ;-)

Thanks

Thanks - this is a really great tune - it has a real upbeat feel to it - well done

It’s a great ‘wee tune’ you give us there!
