“The Hamnavoe Polka”

Just continuing Ronnie Cooper and Shetland music appreciation week, which of course won’t end with the week…

I first learned this in the real world from the fiddling of Pam Swing and Tom Anderson. The transcript given is kept together with following the recording on “The Silver Bow” as well as referring to another recording of the two musicians mentioned. I’ve incorporated some possible minor variations too. Another transcription can also be found here:

Tune # 34: Hamnavoe Polka

Again, curious, I thought this was already here too? 😏

“Hamnavoe Polka” ~ from the previously mentioned book:

“Dis is wan o‘ da first tüns I learned fae me grandfather. He never kent da name o’t but I caa it ”Da Hamnavoe Polka“ cause dat wis whaur he bedd. I never heard it ony wye else ootside o’ Eshaness.”

~ Tom Anderson, Shetland fiddler

Re: Da Hamnavoe Polka

Great tune! On the Silver Bow recording, it sounds more like a strathspey.
