La Valsounette

This waltz was written by breton fiddle player Jacky Molard and first appeared on the ’Fest-Noz" album by Pennoù Skoulm(legendary breton band with Jacky Molard himself) and later on the first , self-titled Swåp-album.

Interpretations

Pennou Skoulm (the origin of this tune) play the first part twice (with slightly different endings), the second part once, repeat the whole thing and finish it off with one chorus of the third (triplet) part.

Swåp play parts one and two twice resepectively, repeat this a number of times and leave out the third part altogether.

Whatever tickles your fancy…

ABC modification

I’ve tidied up the second and third parts of the ABC as the timing was a bit out .
I’ve always assumed the “third” part was just a variation on the second part:

Notation

Good work by the transcribers above in general - thanks! But the triplets are all wrongly notated! (Look at the staff notation versions!) Will post a corrected version when I get a chance. Meanwhile, as an e.g., the first bar they occur in should be written thus: |“D7”(3c/B/c/ (3d/c/d/ (3e/^g/a/|.

Corrected ABC

OK, here’s my corrected setting, checked using a slow-down application, and with no chords (as there are none in the original performance!).

Er Jem, have you tried playing your “corrected” version in an ABC player? It might need a bit more work ;)

ABC syntax

Hi Conán. Well, I do my ABCs in ABCeditMusicEditor to produce correct staff notation copy - I’m not much bothered about MP3 output. However, I see that clicking on the “Sheet Music” tab on my entry here, the conversion to staff notation by The Session is not correct - it can’t convert the “&” syntax to show two voices on one staff within a bar (which I use to show alternative notes). The Session can’t be using the fullest/latest ABC conventions. What I wrote and pasted here produces exactly what I want it to in terms of sheet copy from ABCedit - cf this downloadable Word.doc containing it: https://app.box.com/s/o41fmjmt2sem24aifkk1 - help yourselves, folks!
