Mickey Callaghan’s Fancy

At first, I heard this tune played as "P. J. Haye’s" in Calico’s "Celanova Square," but later I found P. J. himself playing in Mary MacNamara’s album.

Lovely tune. I learnt it from the Sliabh Notes recording "Gleantan" , in the key of A. It’s also on Breathnach #1 on the key of D.
I decided to tranpose it to G in order to fit it into a set between the Air "Kitty Tyrell" and the reel "Touch me if you dare", both in G.

A variation can be done in second part’s last round, changing Bd|e2e (I actually play Bd|e3) by Gfe3

As my setting is slightly different from this one, I include it here. Enjoy.

I don’t know anything about this hornpipe. My teacher Michael Grogan taught it to me and it should be played with a swing (>) and dotted rhythm like most hornpipes.

Duplication Apology

Sorry about that never heard of Michael Tubridy’s being called Mikey Callaghan’s before? Sorry again

My tip: Play this tune when they bring in the birthday cake and no one pays attention to the music (and it’s so easy it can be played in the dark, even when you can’t see your fingers very well!)

My other tip: play it no more than twice and very fast.

Re: Mickey Callaghan’s Fancy

Does anyone know the chords for this in G major?

P.J. Haye’s

D: Tola Custy & Cyril O’Donoghue - Setting Free (second tune of track 08)

Mickey Callaghan’s Fancy, X:7

We play this setting at my local session. The leader of the session has at times referred to it as ‘Micky O Calahan’s’ and ‘Micky O Calahan’s Fancy’ and ‘Micky O Sullivan’s’. Most often he calls it the later, though I cannot believe it, for it is so similar to Micky O Calahan’s Fancy, just in a different Key.
