Rond De Saint Vincent polka

This tune is a Breton dance tune (a Rond De Saint Vincent, believe it or not). I learnt it at a workshop with Serge Liorzou (brilliant bombarde players and chanteur) and he says that it is often mistaken for an An Dro and musicians have to be careful not to make it sound like one. It has words (as do many Breton tunes) but they have slipped my mind and searching has proved no luck - if I find them I will post them here.

How would one make this feel like a Rond De Saint Vincent, and not an An Dro? Forgive my ignorance, I’m relatively new to Breton music. What would the difference be?

The emphasis should be on the first beat (and a strong feeling throughout) for the Rond de St Vincent, and the An Dro is much more gentle and beats less pronounced.

Then can I ask why it’s here as a polka? Polkas have a strong off-beat emphasis >_>

Because I’m an idiot and didn’t realise this until after I’d posted. ^^

Cet air “rond de saint vincent sur Oust”, est appelé ‘la pèche à l’anguille‘, fait partie du patrimoine traditionelle breton (gallo) bien qu’ayant été composé par Gilbert Hervieux (sonneur et luthier) lors du prestigieu concours de musique traditionelle bretonne par couple de Gourin en 1995, donc il avait remporté cette année grace en partie à cet air composé.
Le couple était composé de Gilbert Hervieux en bombarde et Jacques Beauchamp au biniou kozh.

Cette danse n’est pas un an dro, le rond de st vincent (sur oust) est une propre danse avec ses spécificitées.
Le tempo serat généralement de 95 à 100 à la noire en mesure 4/4. Les notes en croches doivent être joué “swingé”: on devra très légèrement tenir la première note sur le temp un tout petit peu longtemp que la note en contre temp.

Voilà, désolé de faire bref, j’ai fait un petit condensé des choses principale à savoir pour bien jouer un “rdsv”. Au plaisir! ;)

Merci albinonix! Je n‘ai pas pensé que s’appelle “la pèche à l‘anguille” mais maintenant je sais…pardon, je l’écrit en mesure 2/4, je n‘ai su pas que il faut être 4/4. Je peux danser le Rond de Saint Vincent, je l’aime! 🙂

The eel
’I was hardly 10 [9, 8, etc down to 1 til the dance ends] years old, I fished for eels:
