This is a transcription based on John Carty’s fiddle playing on the 2007 release, "Pathway to the Well," with Matt Molloy and Arty McGlynn. It’s a different tune than the Johnny Gorman’s (aka Throw Away the Keys) in D found here: https://thesession.org/tunes/1540
Go buy the album—it’s the best ould trad cd to come out in years, well steeped in Sligo tunes and style, with a natural, clear balance of all three instruments, mostly recorded at Molloy’s in Westport. Brilliant tunes played amongst friends having fun—doesn’t get any better.
Coleman actually called this "Martin Brennan’s Delight." He also recorded a tune on the same occasion in 1944 he called "Johnny Gorman’s - Reel," Molloy and Carty got the titles of these tunes mixed up. Coleman played it very pokey for a reel. The other tune is here: https://thesession.org/tunes/8187 Coleman followed MB’s D with "Paddy Shannon’s Polka," note. This was the title he used on this occasion for the polka usually called Casey’s, which title is also from an MC disc.
Some malicious soul has somehow messed up the ABC version shown above. Notice that the first line reads:
"Duck luck|muck tuck|suck puck|buck fuuu|", which isn’t any sort of music I’ve ever heard!
A couple of weeks ago I copied-and-pasted the following right from this very page:
D3E G3A|B2 BA ~B3c|d2 ge dBBA|GEED EFGE|
DB,DE GFGA|B2 BA ~B3c|d2 ge dBAB|1 G2 g2 g2 GE:|2 G2 g2 g3a||
bagb a2 fa|gfeg dcBc|d2 ge dBAB|GEED Eega|
bagb a2 fa|gfeg dcBc|d2 ge dBAB|1 G2 g2 g3a:|2 [G6G,6] GE||
It’d be interesting to know the story behind this needless change!
If it’s who I think it is, the original submitter left this site ignominiously some time ago, hence the lack of a visible user name, and may have trashed the ABC as a bit of vandalism on his way out.
If that’s really the case that you found the intact ABCs just a few weeks ago, you should notify Jeremy, as the poster I mentioned left this site last year, and the vandalism took place since then.
Johnny Gorman’s, X:2
This is a duplicate of the first setting above, but without the corrupted line.
