"The Cornerstone Jig" ~ C: Reverend Pete

Now, honest, I was just minding my own business, when along comes these ABCs, and I noticed that they were compositions by one of our illustrious members here, the Reverend. Well, seeing as they were, so to speak, epistles, I decided to settle down with them a spell and see if they would cure my aches, maybe magic a wart or two away from my demented soul, and give me solace and peace… While I had hopes, and I did get pleasure from this pastime, no, they didn’t even make a freckle fade.

Then I thought, what a shame that these are hidden away for just those that might stumble across them by accident or design, so I thought I’d drag one out and place it here for others to enjoy. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to mutilate it or adulterate it, which seems to have been the result of coming in close contact with my tomented self… Anyway, you have options and choices and I can’t take all the blame. The melody itself made me do it, took control so to speak. I’m just a sucker for a good tune, much better than a six pack of brew any day… Burp! Sorry about that, a bit of residual gas… ๐Ÿ˜Ž

"The Cornerstone Jig" ~ in the reverend’s own words and ways:

A tune that just popped out one afternoon. It wasn’t my intention to mimic the A part of the Corner House reel, but that’s what popped out in my noodling. Thus the name…

"The Cornerstone Jig" ~ here’s the simplest request this tune made of me ~

~ a second ending, returning to the last 4 measures of the A-part…

~ but I have a weakness for second endings, even the simplest sort where it returns to the last four measures of the A-part… The requests didn’t stop there…

Sure… go ahead and bastardize my tune, see if I care! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Actually, it gives it a different feel, and I like it.

However, once I write a tune, I have a hard time changing it, because it takes on a life of its own. It may evolve over time, or *demand* a change of its own (and I never fight it). So it’s nice to hear another interpretation of the tune - and that’s OK, because it sounds like it forced itself upon you in its own way.

Pete

~ under various influences ~

Yes Pete, in a moment of agony, pain. I distracted myself from that by enjoying your music and this is what comes of it. The rest pretty much kept within your parameters, but this particular one for some reason seemed to have a mind of its own. It was the only thing that went into a second ending, and the first time I actually played it, and ~ I was reading your ABCs. Then, it just seemed to need a space here on its own. By they way, as pain killers go, it wasn’t half bad. It occupied most of the time. I’ll be returning to the others later. The pain is particularly bad today, but I’m stubborn. I hate pills and try to avoid doctors. I may just have to give in to that if this persists. It’s like somebody stabbing me in the back. Hey, one of you didn’t sneak over here and jab me while I was sleeping did you? ๐Ÿ˜‰

AABB ~ Pete’s original ABCs, but with a lead-in |: B | given…
CCDD ~ where the tune ended up taking me, with a bit more of an individual second ending, but still the same tune under the influence of pain…and fun, letting it loose to run around on its own…
