Mary McNamara’s (reel)

From Liam Farrell and Joe Whelan’s duet playing. It somewhat sounds like Lad O’Beirne’s, but has an extra part and different bits here and there. It’s paired with another 3-part reel, the Temple Hill, and the same set was recetly played by Clare flute player Christy Barry on radio: http://www.clarefm.ie/main/kitchen%20sessions3.html

The title probably refers to the East Clare concertina player, but I suspect it has a much more interesting one.

The Premier Reel

This is The Premier Reel, by Paddy O’Brien. It’s in his book of compositions, p.41. I’ve heard this played at my local session, but haven’t got round to learning it myself. I’d forgotten about it actually. Maybe I’ll give it the attention it deserves. The original version is as follows, with a nice C# accidental which is absent from slainte’s version.

Cheers for the info.

I’ve been wondering about the title of this tune for a while. It’s a nice one and now that Dow mentioned it, it does have a Paddy O’Brien stamp on it.
