This tune is actually in Eb major, but that’s not an option for posting tunes, so that’s why it says it’s in Fmaj.

You need to select "F dorian" as your key sig, which will give you 3 flats. God knows why there’s an F dorian and no Eb major. I can’t think of a single F dorian tune.

Usually when I’m searching for a tune in Eb I search for Fmaj, because it’s the closest thing to Eb major, in terms of number of flats. Oh well, too late to change it now. You can only edit the ABC itself, not the title and everything else, after you’ve already submitted the tune. I agree, there needs to be an option to make it easier to identify tunes with more than one flat.

Originally in D major?

The Hawk

Not to be confused with the excellent James Hill reel of the same name.

A different title

Once again Josephine Keegan supplies a new title (‘Billy McLaughlin — The Joiner’) when including a setting of this tune in her collection "A Drop in the Ocean".

this just can’t be the correct key signature. can someone please re-post this tune with correct notation and key signature?

The Hawk jig

No, I’m afraid not.

The Hawk, X:2

This is how I hear it played by Gerry O’Connor.

Re: The Hawk

Great tune, but who’s the composer?

Re: The Hawk

James Hill of Newcastle. I think The Hawk was a pub in Gateshead.

Re: The Hawk

Sorry Noel, I hadn’t spotted your posting!
