Man, i need to brush up on my knowledge of tune types… I THINK this is a slip jig… (?)
Donal Lunny wrote this, it’s a fun tune but you’ll go insane after practicing it a few times… oh well 🙂
Oh yeah, on the last line, after you play the second ending you’re supposed to go back to the beginning, play the whole thing through, and on then skip the last second ending and go to the part after it. Confusing??
This is a great slip jig. Fair play to you for writing all of it out in ABC.
That Donal Lunny live album with this tune on it is one of the best trad recordings ever, in my humble opinion. It has that terrific version of The Gold Ring and those mad polkas.
Does anyone have the track listing for it? And, if so, would they like to post it in the "Recordings" section?
Thats brilliant Mark, well done
Thanks for writing this out in the abc thing.
It took me ages to learn it of the CD and then write it down.
For anyone else who wants to learn it, don’t give up, it’s worth it.
Just play along with the CD, and the dots should help.
Brilliant, but there are a few bars that differ from what is played on the recording:
A-part bars 5&6: |ABc cde dcA|BAG dBG cGE|
B-part bar 5: |cde dgf ~e2d|
C-part bar 1: |efg eaf dgf|
C-part bar 6: |def gdB cGE|
E-part bar 2: |cde dBG cGE|
I’ve been asked to submit a full transcription here with the corrections for this tune. This is based on the pipes setting. ~D3 denotes a low D cran. If you want to convert this to sheetmusic, cut & paste the abc with all its headers including the X: header into the box @ this webpage http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html and click on "submit". If you like pretty dots, download it as a pdf.

Slightly bemused or shy? The last 2 parts will do!
Fair play to all the transcribers above, and good luck to those who set out to learn the lot! I’ll be content with learning the last two parts only (5 and 6 of the sheet music here) and be aisy on the auld cerebellum!
