Stoney Brennan

This is a Vincent Broderick composition, and instantly one of my favorites of his. A fluter friend bought Broderick’s book, The Turoe Stone Collection, while over in Ireland and this was one of the first tunes he learned from it. So it’s pretty much as transcribed in the Turoe Stone Collection.

Stoney Brennan was a peat farmer hanged for stealing a turnip. The book includes a photo of Vincent standing by a stone marker with Mr. Brennan’s likeness.

Stoney Brennan

The first few bars of the one and only setting were all screwed up and unplayable; I think it’s OK now.

Haha, seems that the OP didn’t leave this board without weaving a satanic message into this tune… maybe there are more? Watch out!!

Thanks O’Bryan for submitting the cleaned setting. It’s a good tune.

Re: Stoney Brennan

Personally, I prefer the first version above and hope to play it at the next annual Stoney commemoration in Loughrea - if there is ever going to another one.
