Learnt from Marcas O’Murchu’s flute playing. He cites Brendan Tonra as the composer as well as the source. It’s followed by another jig penned by Tonra, "The Man in the Bog": https://thesession.org/tunes/8685
The sleeve notes of the recording don’t mention who the title refers to. Possibly the assassinated President?
Damn I thought it said "Farewell to Kenny" for a second then! Now my hopes have gone back down 🙁
Setting from The Man Himself
The setting I’ve posted is from the playing of Brendan Tonra, for those interested. And yes, slainte, the title does refer to the slain American President. That event would’ve only been a handful of years after Brendan emigrated here in 1959. What a shock that must’ve been for a new U.S. citizen such as Brendan!
