Six comments

Da Galleywatch

I learnt this tune from great Shetland fiddler Jenna Reid at a weekend workshop in the Yorkshire Dales last year.

The way she taught it was to start on an upbow, slurring the e into a shortened f thus

e-|:fz df etc

I think this version is slightly different from other versions I found on Fiddlers Companion

The version recorded by The Boys of the Lough (and on The Silver Bow, I think - both feature Aly Bain) goes something like this:

X: 1
T: Da Galley Watch
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
R: reel

Yes - that’s more along the lines of the version I’ve put in the comment above. Do you know of any other recordings? I’ve not managed to find any
