Relax and enjoy this sweet beautiful tune

Transcription: gian marco pietrasanta

Written by Rejean Brunet

The tune which usually follows it in a Les Freres Brunet set, Reel du Printemps, was written by his brother Andre (of the Celtic Fiddle Festival, of course). This tune is also found on ‘1,2,3’ by Les Freres Brunet among numerous other recordings

Glass House

I hope this isn’t somewhere else under a different name. I heard it in the Oberlin, Ohio session and they instisted it’s called Glass House.

The English word "glass" translates to French as "verre."

Re: Maison De Glace

It would translate to Ice House. (Or House of Ice)

Re: Maison De Glace

Maison de glace (or The Ice House jig, not House of Ice) — we learned it directly from André years ago and follow it in a set of three with La marche au camp and Le tourment composed by Jean-Paul Loyer.

Maison De Glace, X:5

Syncopated the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th bars of the B Part.

Re: Maison De Glace

The English term "ice house" means, at least in Texas, a convenience store, like where you might go to buy cold beer, a term that may come from the days before refrigeration. I kind of doubt that the composer would prefer that rather than "House of Ice," which sounds more romantic, which is my take on the tune itself …

Re: Maison De Glace

Davis & Elkins College hosts the Augusta Heritage Festival, and has done for many years. In 1997 the Brunet Brothers were teaching there. There is a building called the Ice House where sessions and impromptu jams are held, and Rejean Brunet wrote the tune in that building. My husband attended Davis & Elkins and enjoyed many a night of music in the Ice House, and I attended a few myself at Irish Weeks at Augusta before it went defunct. At a recent contract Rejean Brunet called this tune the "Ice House Jig."
