Some notes on Happy Days
Happy Days was recorded by Cherish The Ladies on their album "The Back Door." This is the only place I have ever encountered this sweet little jig. According to the CD liner notes, the tune was composed by legendary fiddler Larry Redican. I was a member of the now defunct band Finnegan’s aWake in Knoxville, TN, in the late ’90s and 2000 and introduced the tune to the band. We recorded it on FA’s second album "Wake," but to my knowledge it has not been recorded again anywhere else. I am really surprised that Happy Days has not caught on since Cherish The Ladies recorded it on such a high profile album.
If you care to, you could supplement the ABCs with the following additional header info:
S:Cherish the Ladies: The Back Door
D:Green Linnet GLCD 1119
Z:Transposed from C
I have recently introduced Happy Days to the seisiun that I attend in Dover, NH (Tuesdays 7pm - 10pm at Kelly’s Row), and a few people are working on learning it. Enjoy!
More notes on Happy Days
I noticed when I submitted this tune that it linked with a tune listed on an album by The Irish Tradition and another by The Battlefield Band. I am not familiar with either of these recordings, so I don’t know if they are the same tune or not.
This was the tune recorded by The Irish Tradition under this title, except that they played it in F. Redican favored that key and others of his compositions are set in F. This tune was published in Treoir a long time ago but I think there was a different title attached. If I can find it, I’ll put it in another comment.
The title Josephine Keegan has for this tune is ‘Hide in the Loft’. Joanie Madden has it as ‘Let’s Dance’.
