Notes

Having bought a Boldwood CD from Richard Heacock (ex fiddle recently left), I always loved this tune and thinks its one of the best on the CD. Searches for tunes of this name proves less than fruitful on the net so I set about transcribing it myself!

I’m a total minor-key junkie…

The only real difference between this transcription and the CD is rolls on the 2nd note on the last bar (both 1st and 2nd time through) of the A and the B parts. I left these out for clarity and to allow for personal taste.

I understand that Balthazar’s Feast may have recorded this as well - but I havent got the album yet. Hey Christmas is coming! ;)

Eminor

That tune sounds very familar -why?

Incorrect

Drat. Not being able to alter ABC headers is a pain - because the ABC for the tune was written in L:1/16 not 1/8. So the timings are wrong.

Ill correct it.

No its not - maybe!

It appears that in Skink (and maybe other ABC software) the default note for M:2/4 remains at 1/16 despite the L:1/8 line in the header….

So it should be OK…

Belshazzar’s Feast, not Balthazar’s Feast. I love Boldwood

Polka?

Barry, it is possible to add the header (for the subnitter only) but this is limited to the possible rythms and there is none of the kind you need.
I think this might be slow reel anyway, but I need a recodring of it…

Belshazzar’s Feast

Oh thank you thank you thank you!

I knew something was wrong as I completely failed to find them on the net. I was digging around for my copy of FiddleOn that has them in it…but youve saved me the trouble!

Cheers!

Polka?

slow reel? The music is actually written in its original form in 2/4 - but that doesnt make it a polka as you say - just a tune in 2/4.

Many of the tunes in playford are in 2/4 but arent Polkas. I personally wouldnt have added it under that rhythm but as I understand it there is no other way on the site to do this.

It is quite possibly a reel. Not sure about ‘slow’ though ;)

Boldwood - Feet Dont Fail Me Now - track 6 🙂

Hornpipe

Hey some kind peep changed it to a hornpipe - that makes lots of sense - especially given Becky’s penchant for hornpipes!

But time sig should be 2/4.

There is a big difference between 4/4 and 2/4….so the tune should be played in 2 not in 4.

William Irwins (Modal) Hornpipe

This tune is in the manuscripts of William Irwin, the Lakeland Fiddler, as ‘A hornpipe’ with the note ‘(modal)’ appended by Anne Gilchrist when she transcribed it.
