Kevin Griffin play this on one of his Albums. It’s a good tune to play before a reel. I play “Never was I piping so gay” After it and they sound great.

I’m sure this is Charlie Lennon’s “Planxty Joe Burke” - can anyone confim? Sharon Shannon used to play it on live sets, but I don’t think recorded it.

Last month (August) I was searching around for the abc of this tune after learning it from Anam’s recording. Someone on the Mudcat finally made an abc of it for me. I play it on the Indian harmonium and like it alot. Thanks for posting it here. Doesn’t Charlie Lennon deserve a royalty for it being reproduced on the internet? How do we resolve publishing contemporary work? Just curious, in case this has been discussed here before.

Composers

If someone submits a tune, and that tune can be attributed to a known composer, then I have to assume that the person submitting the tune has permission from the composer.

If it ever becomes an issue, I’ll have to just trawl through the site and delete all the tunes that can be attributed to a composer (an immensely difficult thing to ascertain in the first place) and somehow stop people from posting “non trad” tunes in the future.

I certainly can’t pay any royalties as this site is a non-profit community that generates no money (in fact, it costs me money in hosting fees).

For what it’s worth, most trad players who compose tunes are more than happy for them to enter the public domain.

Liz Doherty also recorded this on ‘Last Orders’ and gives it a little “different feel”. I always liked Kevin Griffin’s set. But I believe that the other tune should be “The Hut on Staffen Island” (by Phil Cunnigham), not Staten.
