Get out your “Dust Busters” - here’s a reeeally old one!
I found this curiously- titled single reel in "Petrie’s Complete Irish Music" (still in print; I got my copy at Borders). It strikes me as being very much a dance tune (as opposed to a "listening" tune) because of its simplicity. Still, there’s something about the tune that grabs me , so here it is for your perusal. Let me know what you think- cheers!
At first I thought you were joking… Lovely! I’ll learn it for Sunday fa sho. I’m terrible with jokes, but I’m sure someone can make one out of this and Last Night’s Fun… Damn my lack of cleverness.
And for some more fun….
The next time I played with Armand after posting this, he had already done this slight (but lovely) "tweak" to the tune:
T: Last Night’s Funeral
|: ag | fded =cAGB | A/B/=c AG Adde | fded =cAGB | Addc d2 :|
ef |gfef gfaf | gfef ~g3 a | gfef gfaf | gfec d2 ef |
gfef gfaf | gfef g2 fg |afge fdec | Addc d2 ||
I think he may have been playing a lot of piping tunes at the time (just a guess)! :-)
Is the only difference the four c naturals in the A part, Jay? Hard to scan it without sheet music. Wondering whether you should add it as a setting, which requires clicking a not-so-obvious button.
Ok. I edited my miscount of two to a miscount of four, but the edit button then vanished. It’s three, at last count. There are three kinds of mathematician: those who can count and those who can’t.
And-a-one, two, three, ELEVEN…
Yes, the only difference is the THREE c naturals. I’ve already been gently prodded by Jeremy to add it as a new setting. And really, Gary, a mathemetician who can’t count? I’m bitterly disappointed! ;-p
Jay, both of me are disappointed that you misspelled "mathematician"! I’ll try to learn this for AS220 tomorrow. Will you be there? It’s already very familiar to me (maybe from Armand’s playing it at sessions?)
Of course I meant Saturday, not tomorrow. I’m also calendar-impaired.
It’s nOt That i CCan’T sPELL, It’S thaT I can”t tyPe
I’s working on Saturday, but I’m-a goan try to make it…;-P
