Twelve comments

“Hats off to Hatao” ~ 8-) ~ ;-) ~ 8-)

With respect for his passion and talents, one made man to another, and in answer to the OTT arrangement he did of "O’Carolan’s Draught" for flute and violin and someone laying down chords. It was a hoot and had me laughing for a good spell. You’re a gem Hatao and the door is always open…

This too might be considered O.T.T., over the top, and definitely has some of the fairground about it, or the musical "Music Man", or at least those things came to mind as I was waltzing around the kitchen bumping in to things and getting dizzy.

I’ve given this in a key for D limited instruments, but that’s not the key it came to me in, which was lower. I’ll add that in the comments…

? Oops ! ~ One ‘mad’ man to another… But ‘made’ isn’t all together wrong… ;-)

I play this as a fast waltz and dance it along the lines, if a comparison helps, of a zweifacher. To break this up rhythmically ~ ‘s’ = step ~

And, turning as a couple either CW or ACW, or just dancing in place or back and forth or moving LOD (in the Line-Of-Direction, usually ACW around the dance space/hall)…

For this one I like the old barrel, shoulder-to-shoulder, hold…

It’s that fast, usually, though it works slow too, that I can only manage one foot tap to a bar/measure, 85 - 95 of these a minute, or 1/8 = 255 - 285 bpm… I did say ‘fast’…

So, more like 3/8 and similar to a bouree in tempo and bounce…

“Hats off to Hatao” / “The Ferris Wheel Waltz” ~ & the slow of it ~

This arrived slow and relaxed, at say 1/8 = 145 - 150 bpm, roughly half the speed of the fast waltz tempos listed above, that was before I started bouncing into the furniture with it.

If I a devilish humour came upon me, and there were dancers on the floor, and there were other musicians in agreement, I’d consider taking it this nice and relaxed way to start and then maybe shifting up to the fast waltz way of it… Some of the older musicians used to do similar things with the likes of "Shoe the Donkey", a bit of the endurance test about it, and some fun…

This is so familiar and comfortable that I wouldn’t be surprised if it came in great part from things I’ve known well but haven’t managed to make or find the connection to… I did do some initial searching just in case, but I didn’t find anything, not yet anyway… ;-)
