Private Ass & Cart

This is a great little D-tune that I just learned from the Kathleen Collins album. Thought I’d share it with you guys.

Private Ass & Cart

Great wee tune. Sounds good if you play the repeat of the 1st part in the higher octave, or even only in bars 2 & 4.

Callaghan’s/the Doon

This is "Callaghan’s / The Doon" as posted by Dow, but in an anti-social key [ for flute players, anyway ].

Posted by .

Hmm, the B-part’s a bit different though isn’t it?

I think this is the one Kathleen Collins recorded(in D) as Private Ass and Cart, which was said in the sleeve notes to be a version of Callaghans.

Asociated with Kitty Cunningham of Donegal.

Just found another one. But: hornpipe?!
Maybe he meant fling… That would figure. It’d make a great fling. ‘c’ can you work your magic on this one?

Hey, not quite, it was this that made me look:

"Just found another one. But: hornpipe?!" ~ but you are the source. Now to check this out… 😉

"Private Ass & Cart" ~ stepping down

It was only E Major because, I suspect, it was probably old tuning…

It’s your notes, just transposed and me adding a lead-in and stacking them for bar comparison… While we’re at it, I’ll have a Long Island Ice Tea… 🙂

I quite like it in E as posted in the original submission. Wonder what the source was…

Not a great key for flutes but nice for the EC - have you tried it on EC, ‘c’?

I think I’m going to play it in E. My reason being that the Doon/Callaghan’s is sometimes played in sessions I go to, and it most often appears in D, as opposed to G which is how I posted it. If I were to start Kitty Sheain’s in D, it’s likely everyone would just go ahead and play that B-part. In E, it’s more likely that the fiddlers would pick it up as a new tune.

by "that B-part" I meant "the B-part for the Doon/Callaghan’s". It made sense at time of writing…

I just did a quick google search, and it looks like the source for the original posting was probably Altan’s Runaway Sunday. I don’t have that album myself so I can’t confirm this. I dearly wish people would state their source(s) after posting a tune. It’s not much to ask, really. I wouldn’t necessarily expect anyone to do that in a session of course, since session playing is a one off spontaneous event, but posting abc on an internet database intended to be a reference for international users is kind of different.

Dow made me do it ~ 😏 😎

What B-part are you on about? I will, of course, do as you suggest… My eyes are glazing over ~ nope ~ they were already glazed over… "Master!"

I was on about the one you yourself posted a link to.

"Master?" 😲

Callaghan’s

It similar to this reel but varies in the second part.

https://thesession.org/tunes/1731

Robbie Hannan & Paddy Glackin start of their album Seidean Si with The Bonny Bunch of Ferns but the above tune (Callaghan’s) is actually what they play.

Piper of keady

Originally i´m lookong for "the keady piper", great recording on ceol is peob. (Track 7 No 3not track 10.)Tiarnan told me this title " bonny bunch…" Got this abc years ago from … I dont know it anymore, but its only a basic version. Try to learn it by ear now…

here you will find something more:

http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/BONN_BONNY.htm#BONNY_BUNCH_OF_FERNS

Specially the second part is very similar to Nelly Donovan No 19 in the dance music of Willy Clancy
Kurt

Both Mike Rafferty and Joe Burke

have this tune as ‘The Private Ass and Cart’, another nice name for it.

David Taylor

I mean G

Not……

It’s certainly NOT "The Dance Of The Honeybees". Who’s the shmuck who put that in as a title ?

Posted by .

Someone should write jiggyhobbit ~ who seems to be another one that does the dump-and-run, not leaving any comment. Well, we can only try. If there’s not, then maybe Jeremy will remove that alternate title? 😏

Done! Now we wait………
