The other setting that concertinaplayer points to is actually in D. It’s mislabeled in the abc file.
Paddy Cronin once played this to me in a deserted bar, and his way of it makes a better tune, to my ear.
In the first part, bars 1 &5 opened CECE (none of your long C), and bar 8 ended ‘ge’ to lead into the 2nd part bars 1/2 &5/6:
