Ornaments

those long notes are crying out to be ornamented. This is how i do that on the whistle. On the high ones you can get a pleasing vibrato effect, and a trill sounds good. On the lower ones, a roll or a flicker of the fingers works really well. Just thought I’d share that.

The immigrant

Does this tune have any lyrics?

Joanie Madden’s version

This tune is on Joanie Madden’s "Song of the Irish Whistle" (noted above) with a beautiful guitar section to complement her amazing whistling. You can pick up some ornamentation from her interpretation, although the tune doesn’t need much.

Printing

Help! I can’t work out how to print this tune and I left my old copy in Ireland. I’m on a Mac, and whenever I print it just gives me half the song. Any help gratefully appreciated as I love this tune.

Printing

It’s just too long.

One solution is to press print, but not "OK". Instead, go down to the "PDF" button, and select "Save as PDF". Then print the PDF, which should come out on two pages.

Another way would be to add it as another setting, but double up the lines:

f4 ed|B4 d2|B2 A4-|A4 B2|A3F DE|E4 DE|FA d2 c2|B4 de|

Then it would probably print from here on one page.

Re: The Immigrant

Just to mention that the video I just posted is being played in C. It does mention it in the comments but I didn’t notice until I picked up my D to play along and kept dropping down a note :)
