There are 2 recordings of this tune.
The Road To Sligo has been added to 43 tunebooks.
I transcribed this tune from a session recording of concertina player Kate McNamara at the 2009 Catskills Irish Arts Week. It’s been identified as appearing on her CD (“Are You the Concertina Player?,” https://thesession.org/recordings/3033 ) under this title. See discussion at https://thesession.org/discussions/22187
Does anyone know who wrote this tune? Was it written by Kate McNamara?
No. Kate’s liner notes say that she learned it from Mary MacNamara.
I was just listening to Kate MacNamara’s recording of this lovely tune and decided to learn it. I see that there was a question three years ago as to who wrote it. Tunepal found it in a collection of compositions of the late Brendan Tonra.
I’m looking at an issue of Comhaltas’ “Treoir” magazine - #4 1992 - which has 5 tunes composed by Brendan Tonra transcribed in the centre pages. This is one of them.
Kenny, I have Brendans book of tunes “A Musical Voyage” and the 5 tunes you are looking for are probably in it if you have the names. As for the Treoir I am sure I have it somewhere but could take a while to find it. I can loan you the book or if it’s out of print (I can’t find a date in the book) I could copy it or if you just need the five tunes I can copy them for you.
Paddy.
