Flook - Flatfish

This tune comes from Flook’s “Flatfish” album. The tune was written by Brian Finnegan, or perhaps Sarah Allen.

The scales in the second part makes it seem more like one of Sarah’s tunes to me, but all in all, it sounds more like one of Brian’s… I don’t have the liner notes, so I’ve not a clue.

On “Flatfish”, the set is played on an Ab whistle, putting this tune in Bbminor. Egad.

Correction, played on a bamboo Olwell Ab flute. Tiny thing…

And I correct myself on the composer- Eamon McElholm of Solas wrote this tune.

Cool variation Brian does on the third and fourth bars-

Also, every now and then, substitute the B-B for a d..

Re: The Sligo

Re. comment above but 1, Eamon McElholm was in a band with Brian called “Upstairs In A Tent”, and then in “Deanta” before joining “Solas”. Brian Finnegan recorded this tune on his first solo recording, “When The Party’s Over”.
