Mairtin O’Connor

This jig is the second tune on the ‘Rockin’ the Boat’ track on his ‘The Road West’ album.
I don’t have the liner notes to check for a name but maybe someone else can shed light on this.

Oh, okay then. Yes, does anyone have any more info?… And I correct myself, written by box player Martin O’Connor, NOT Brian Finnegan.

Liadan

Liadan has it on their album in a set containing the following jigs:

Behind the Haystack - Rockin the Boat - Campbelltown Loch

They play "Rocking the boat" in G-major, Brian Finnegans version is in C-major. Now I wonder, is O’Connors original tune really written in A-major? Sweets me well, cause it fits perfectly to the song " Ar Bhruach Na Carraige Baine" (Altan), which is in A-major too.

Rockin’ the Boat - deserves to be alot more popular!

Just sayin! Great tune!

Rocking The Boat, X:3

This is the setting as played by Mairtin O Connor in the video below. He plays it in Bb.

Rocking The Boat, X:4

Setting 4:
Máirtín O’Connor plays two of his own compositions Inagh Valley then moving into this jig “Rocking the Boat”.

He plays in a mode with two flats (Bb-maj) and I play along with that.
But it needed to be presented with 2 sharps here.

Rocking The Boat, X:5

I (hopefully) wrote down what Máirtín O’Connor plays in the video below. I only changed the key to Amaj because Bb is very uncomfortable for most instruments I guess… 🙂

Re: Rocking The Boat

Great tune! — works well in A as a final tune in a set following something in G. Cathal Hayden taught this tune to us in A on the tenor banjo last fall at the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat in Texas.
