Far O’er the Struay

I believe this is actually a retreat march, not a waltz, but there is no option for those when submitting. Best played slow I think.

Other online sources say it was composed by John Peter MacLeod.

Far O’er The Struay

Where did you get it, iwilson?

Far O’er the Struay

I learnt this tune from one of the tutors at the Folkworks Summer School in Durham, Uk, last week (aug 2009).

I was going to put up some others I learnt (I Will Sail from Islay to Kintyre, Glenburnie Rant), but can only put up one a day.

Far O’er The Struay, X:2

As played by West Highland fiddler Angus Grant. From Alastair Hardie’s excellent and highly recommended tutor "The Caledonian Companion"

Re: Far O’er The Struy

The village and road is actually Struy - no a - in the NE of Scotland. The road is very wild and beautiful. And this is the location to which the tune refers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Struy
Struay is a fictional island in the Katie Morag books, but based on the real island of Coll in the Hebrides.
Just sayin’!

Re: Far O’er Struy

You can correct it, Trish. I did.

Thanks Donald: had forgotten that facility.
